[March 21, 2012] CHICAGO – “Dunks of the Year,” a one-hour television special, will be televised at 11 p.m. ET Monday, March 26, on ESPN2. The program will feature in-depth looks at some of college basketball’s best rim-rocking slams from the 2011-12 season, as voted on by Facebook fans. The winner of the Dunks of the Year competition, as voted on by Facebook fans (facebook.com/DunksOfTheYear), will be revealed in the program.
The show will feature Indiana’s Victor Oladipo, who threw down a paralyzing dunk in the face of Kentucky’s Darius Miller during the Hoosiers’ 73-72 upset of then-No.1 ranked Kentucky on Dec. 10. Other dunkers featured in the program include Campbell’s Eric Griffin, Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Darius Miller, Memphis’ D.J. Stephens, Washington’s Tony Wroten, Wyoming’s Larry Nance Jr. and Xavier’s Dez Wells.
Additional features in the show include:
• A Tribute to the Dunk – A reflective take on the significance of dunking in the world of sports.
• My First Dunk – College basketball’s top dunkers reminisce about their first dunking experience.
• Best of the Rest – A look back at the best slams of the season that were not Dunks of the Year nominees.
• Jam City – An auto-tuned highlight reel of the season’s best dunks and broadcast calls courtesy of ESPN’s resident mix-master, DJ Steve Porter.
Interludes from professional dancer Marquese Scott and professional dunker Terry “T-Dub” Cournoyea of Team Flight Brothers will also be featured throughout the show.
