[Oct. 10, 2012] NEW YORK – KPMG LLP, official hat sponsor of PGA Tour star Phil Mickelson, today announced Steven Larson as the winner of the “Where Is The Blue Hat Taking You?” contest, an interactive social media campaign focused on Mickelson’s new Blue Hat.
The contest, part of KPMG’s “Blue for Books” youth literacy initiative, invited fans to participate by purchasing Phil’s authentic blue KPMG Tour hat at PhilsBlueHat.com and submitting photos via Twitter featuring the hat with the hashtag #PhilsBlueHat. The 10 most creative submissions were selected as finalists. Fans voted for their favorite photo on PhilsBlueHat.com. Click here to view the winning photo: http://bit.ly/SPZeOF.
As the winner, Larson received a VIP trip for two to join Mickelson in San Diego at the Monday Night Football game on Oct. 15, when the San Diego Chargers host the Denver Broncos. Click here to see a video of Mickelson calling Larson to share the good news: http://bit.ly/T2rE8T.
“I am grateful to KPMG, and I’m very excited and feel fortunate,” Larson said. “The thing I am most excited about is being able to meet Phil. I am a big fan of his on the course and I am also a big fan of what he does off the course. Being a school teacher, I obviously have a soft spot for anyone who likes helping out teachers and helping out kids. I am excited to be able to see him in action at halftime in the KPMG Chip4Charity and I am definitely looking forward to my first Monday Night Football experience.”
Mickelson will attempt the “KPMG Chip4Charity” during halftime of the Oct. 15 Monday Night Football game at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. If he hits the target at 100 yards, KPMG will donate as much as $1 million to First Book, a non-profit organization supported by KPMG’s Family For Literacy program.
Mickelson and KPMG share a commitment to youth, education and literacy. To raise awareness of the importance of youth literacy, KPMG’s Family for Literacy teamed with Mickelson and First Book to create KPMG’s “Blue for Books” program in March 2012. The program encourages golf fans to purchase Mickelson’s authentic blue KPMG Tour hat at PhilsBlueHat.com. KPMG donates 100% of the net proceeds to First Book, which provides deserving children three books for each hat sold. Mickelson’s “KPMG Chip4Charity” is the capstone event of the “Blue for Books” campaign.
Mickelson’s Blue Hat is available for purchase online and in the Chargers Team Store on Oct. 15. Complete information about the “Blue for Books” program can be found by following KPMG’s Mickelson sponsorship Twitter handle (@MickelsonHat) or by visiting PhilsBlueHat.com.
