OMAHA, Neb., April 22, 2013 – College baseball’s top sluggers will again compete under the lights of TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in the annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby at 7:30 p.m. CDT, on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. The event, produced by Intersport, promises excitement and entertainment for fans and families alike and will end with a bang – the 29th annual Omaha World-Herald fireworks display.

The College Home Run Derby will feature some of the nation’s premier power hitters, selected from a pool of eligible players that have ranked among the nation’s home run leaders during the 2013 college baseball season. The event will air nationally on ESPN at 7 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 4, 2013.

Last year, more than 22,000 fans packed TD Ameritrade Park Omaha to see nearly 50 home runs and Fresno State Sophomore Aaron Judge take home the night’s top honor.

“The College Home Run Derby continues to grow in popularity. It’s a night at the ballpark for families and fans of college baseball, and we have committed to improving it each year,” said Katrina Becker, managing director of communications and public affairs for TD Ameritrade. “We are using attendee feedback to give our athletes and those who attend this year’s event an even better, memorable experience. And, thanks to our continued collaboration with the Omaha World-Herald, we will once again fill the Omaha night sky with fireworks as we honor our nation’s Independence Day.”

Independence Day Fireworks
TD Ameritrade has partnered teamed up with the Omaha World-Herald to present the 29th annual Omaha World-Herald Fireworks show honoring Independence Day. The 22-minute show will be the largest in Omaha and one of the most dramatic pyrotechnic displays throughout the Midwest through the holiday.

Rules of Play
The College Home Run Derby includes three rounds of play: Round 1 featuring all contestants, Round 2 featuring the top four after Round 1, and Round 3 featuring the top two after Round 2.

In each round, contestants will be challenged to hit as many home runs as they can before logging 10 “out’s,” or hits that do not result in a home run. Balls reaching the warning track will not count as an “out,” giving players another opportunity at bat. Additionally, following the tenth and final out of each “at bat,” contestants will have an opportunity to hit a home run with the ‘Bonus Ball.’ If successful, the special ball will tack two additional home runs onto the contestant’s total score.

Tickets on Sale Now
Tickets for the 2013 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby are $8 for children, $12 for adults, or a ‘Family Four-Pack’ for $35. Tickets may be purchased in-person from the CenturyLink Center arena box offices, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, or online at www.collegehomerunderby.com. Handling fees will apply to those tickets purchased over the phone or online, but not to those purchased in-person.

More information, including participating players and other notable participants, will be released in the coming weeks. Follow the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby on Facebook and Twitter for the latest event updates and information.

For media credentials, please contact Lauren Price at lprice@intersportnet.com

TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation, Intersport and the Omaha World-Herald are separate unaffiliated companies and are not responsible for each other’s services or policies.
